UFC Fight Night: Santos vs Ankalaev

Welcome back fight fans, we’re back with a stacked classic fight night card this weekend from the home of the UFC in the heart of Las Vegas.

UFC 272 lived up to the hype, the main event was an expected fierce war between two of the best in the welterweight division.

This week’s card features some very intriguing, ranked matchups which will play a big role in their respective divisions.

We’re thrilled for a classic fight night card and will be breaking down our ranked Light Heavyweight main event while picking some more winners for all of you. So let’s get straight into it.

Thiago Santos vs Magomed Ankalaev

This is one of the better fight night cards of the year and it features some great matchups, but the spotlight will be held by our ranked Light Heavyweight main event.

The dominant force Magomed Ankalaev’s 7 fight win-streak will be put to the test against the battle-tested veteran Thiago “Marreta” Santos.

Thiago Santos has been a recurring name in the Light Heavyweight rankings and has beaten some big names in the division.

Santos is one of the hardest punchers in the UFC and not many have survived a clean punch from the former title challenger.

Santos has finished some of the best in this division like Jan Blachowicz, Anthony Smith, and Jimi Manuwa in performance bonus-worthy showcases.

The veteran looked impressive in his decision win against young contender Johnny Walker and this week he will look to end another contender’s title hopes.

Although his dance partner this week may have other plans as many believe that Magomed Ankalaev will rule this Light Heavyweight division one day.

Ankalaev is a well-rounded fighter with elite wrestling, slick boxing, and knockout power in both limbs.

The rank 6 Russian is on the rise and currently riding a 7-fight win-streak, he believes he will have earned a title shot if he can end Marreta.

Ankalaev has defeated some tough contenders on his journey to the top and he will look to prove a point when he enters the Octagon this weekend.

The pathway to victory for Santos is to set up his power shots in the initial rounds and catch Ankalaev with something clean.

Although the young contender will possess better cardio and will look to get the better of the exchanges on the feet with his quick hands. Eventually, Ankalaev will also mix in the takedowns and display patience.

Best Bets

Our first best bet this week comes on the main card in a lightweight bout between Drew Dober and Terrance McKinney.

We think Terrance McKinney is a special talent and he has proven so by finishing tough contenders like Fares Ziam and Matt Frevola.

At an underdog price, we are picking the young contender to pile onto Drew Dober’s 2 fight losing streak.

Our next pick comes on a ranked Featherweight bout between “Super” Sodiq Yusuff and Alex “Bruce Leeroy” Caceres.

This is an intriguing matchup and a perfect clash of styles spectacle for the fight fans.

Although given the toughness of both men, we do not see an early finish in this one and predict both men to swing to the final bell.

Our final pick this weekend comes on this Light Heavyweight main event. We think Magomed Ankalaev is just too good, and Santos is on the decline.

Ultimately, we’re picking the Russian to get a big main event win via knockout.
